Toyota backs UK as Queen signs Brexit Bill
Japanese car maker Toyota gave a confidence boost to Brexit Britain announcing a 240 million cash injection in its UK Burnaston plant, according to BBC reports.
The investment news comes as the Queen gives royal ascent Thursday to the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, which passed the Lords on Monday, paving the way for PM Theresa May to trigger Article 50.
The commitment of Japanese car makers, including Nissan which defied Brexit fears by announcing further investment in its Sunderland plant in October, will be put to the test as the UK renegotiates the EU customs union.
Commenting on the investment, Johan van Zyl, chief executive of Toyota Motor Europe, said ‘Continued tariff-and-barrier free market access between the UK and Europe that is predictable and uncomplicated will be vital for future success.’
