Dominic Barton appointed Chair of Asia House

Press Release
Asia House, the London-based think tank, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dominic Barton as its new Chair, effective September 2025. He succeeds Lord Stephen Green, who has successfully led Asia House since 2017, developing the organisation into a leading centre of expertise on Asia and the Middle East.
Dominic Barton is currently Chair of Rio Tinto. He brings extensive international experience to Asia House, previously serving as Global Managing Partner of McKinsey & Company and Canada's Ambassador to China.
Michael Lawrence OBE, Chief Executive of Asia House, said:
“We are thrilled with the appointment of Dominic as our new Chair. His wealth of experience and deep understanding of international business and geopolitics make him uniquely qualified to lead Asia House into our next exciting chapter. At a time when global trade dynamics have never been more important, Dominic’s leadership will ensure that Asia House remains at the heart of these crucial discussions, providing valuable insights and facilitating strategic dialogue.
“My sincere thanks to Stephen Green, who has been an inspirational Chair of Asia House and has guided the organisation masterfully through a transformative decade. Stephen has made an enormous contribution, expanding our influence and reputation as a leading voice on trade policy and commercial dialogue. His vision and dedication leave a lasting legacy.”
Reflecting on his tenure, Lord Green said:
“It has been a genuine privilege to chair Asia House during such an important period. The achievements and progress made by the team have been outstanding. I am immensely proud of the influential role we have carved out. Dominic is a highly respected global business leader, and I am confident he will build upon our successes, further enhancing Asia House's role and impact.”
Commenting on his appointment, Dominic Barton added:
“I am very excited to be joining Asia House at a time when international trade and geopolitical challenges have never been more prominent. We have an important opportunity to shape these discussions. I look forward to working closely with Michael and the dedicated Asia House team, and continuing the exceptional work of Lord Green by further expanding the organisation's role in global economic and trade dialogue.”
Dominic will join the board of Asia House as Chair-designate with immediate effect and will take over as Chair when Stephen Green steps down in September.
