The Role of AI in Gulf Smart Cities: A Focus on Saudi Arabia's Strategic Trade and Geopolitical Initiatives

Laura will explore the role of AI in Gulf smart cities, with a focus on Saudi Arabia’s strategic use of semiconductors to support economic diversification and regional influence goals under Vision 2030.

Her project builds on an interdisciplinary background in international relations, communications, and policy to examine how AI and semiconductors are reshaping trade and governance across the region. With the launch of Saudi Arabia’s Alat initiative and the Kingdom’s growing partnerships with global technology players in Asia, the research captures a pivotal moment in the Gulf’s geopolitical and economic transformation amid rising global tech rivalries and strategic tensions.
