With the UK pursuing trade deals across Asia and seeking entry to the CPTPP, Natalie Black, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on the progress being made.

A trade deal with Japan is high on the UK’s agenda, but with Tokyo setting an end of July deadline by which to conclude negotiations, there are concerns around the scope and benefit of such an FTA for the UK.

Elsewhere, the UK is looking to build relations within Southeast Asia, with London submitting a formal request earlier this month to achieve Dialogue Partner status with ASEAN. Accession to the CPTPP is also emerging as a key policy aim for the UK in the region.

Black, who took up post in Singapore in 2018, will discuss these issues, as well as the broader challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, in this off-the-record video briefing convened exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members.
