Former Indonesian Trade Minister Thomas Lembong, who is now current Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), will join Asia House corporate members for a private briefing on the economic situation and ongoing economic reforms in Indonesia.

Following the recent Cabinet reshuffle in Indonesia, he will discuss the climate for foreign investors, reforms to open up the Indonesian economy and future trading relations between the UK and Indonesia.

As Chairman of BKPM, Mr Lembong recently accompanied Indonesian President Jokowi on his trip to China for the G20 summit in Hangzhou, and to Laos for the 28th ASEAN Summit.

In April, during Jokowi’s UK visit, Mr Lembong, then Trade Minister, spoke about the reforms happening under President Jokowi’s government and the extent to which this is starting to change public attitudes towards foreign investment in Indonesia’s hitherto protectionist economy.

Mr Lembong was appointed Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in July having previously served as Indonesian Trade Minister since August 2015. In his role as Trade Minister he played a key role in launching the EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations.

This briefing is for Asia House corporate members only. To register, please contact Conor Paterson in the Business & Policy Team at conor.paterson@asiahouse.co.uk or call 0207 307 5439.
