HE Abdulmuhsen bin Saad Alkhalaf, Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister of Finance, will join Asia House for a Corporate Members digital briefing on Tuesday 11 February 2025. This is an exclusive opportunity to engage with a senior Saudi government official on the direction of economic policy.
This exclusive off-the-record discussion will also provide unique insights into the Saudi economy, which is undergoing a period of rapid transformation driven by the government’s ambition to attract foreign investment and diversify the economy away from oil under Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Finance is central to these efforts. Speaking from Riyadh, His Excellency will brief Corporate Members on the fast-paced economic reforms and regulatory reforms being introduced to drive growth in Saudi non-oil sectors and encourage more international firms to invest in the Kingdom.
The IMF projects the Saudi economy to expand by 3.3 percent in 2025. This is up from 1.4 percent in 2024, although the IMF has downgraded its 2025 forecast from 4.6 percent following the extension of OPEC+ production cuts. During the private briefing, His Excellency will outline the Kingdom’s economic outlook and budget for 2025, discussing where spending will be prioritised and the Kingdom’s strategy for navigating global economic headwinds in the year ahead.
In addition to his responsibilities, the vice minister is also the Saudi Sherpa, an Executive Director, Member of the Board of Directors, and Member of the Policy and Strategy Committee of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB); Saudi Arabia’s Alternate Governor at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD); and Board Member at the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade (GAFT).
Alkhalaf has experience in economic and fiscal policy through his previous work as Executive Director and Member of the Executive Boards of the World Bank Group as well as Chairman of the Executive Boards' Council Audit Committee, and as CEO and Chief Policy Officer of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's G20 Presidency Financial Track Program.
This digital briefing will be held exclusively for Asia House Corporate Members and moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE.
