YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on Malaysia’s digital strategy and its ASEAN Chairmanship agenda at an off-the-record, in-person briefing at Asia House.
Under Gobind's leadership, the Ministry has driven key digital reforms, including the enactment of the Cyber Security Act 2024, amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, a proposed Data Sharing Bill, and the establishment of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO). His priorities centre on building strong digital foundations, such as infrastructure, cyber resilience, and talent, to support national ambitions.
As the 2025 ASEAN Chair, Malaysia is leading the region's digital transformation and AI governance agenda. The recent ASEAN-GCC-China summit in Kuala Lumpur highlighted Southeast Asia's active role in shaping the global digital economy. Key agreements from the summit (on digital trade standards, data governance, and emerging technologies like blockchain and AI) underscore ASEAN’s growing influence in global digital policy.
This briefing will explore Malaysia’s priorities, including the ASEAN AI Safety Network and the establishment of a National AI Office. Gobind will also highlight how the Malaysian government is partnering with global tech leaders such as Google and Microsoft to drive digital investment and skills development – positioning Malaysia as a leading innovation hub in Southeast Asia.
The session will highlight opportunities for UK businesses to engage with Malaysia’s growing digital economy and support broader ASEAN digital integration efforts.
The briefing will be moderated by Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE.
Places at this briefing are highly limited and Asia House corporate members have priority access.
