Amid the escalating trade dispute between the world's two largest economies, the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, HE Liu Xiaoming, will speak exclusively at Asia House on Beijing’s strategy as the situation progresses. There are high level meetings set for this week in Beijing after US President Donald Trump announced tariffs on US$50 billion in Chinese goods in early April, a move quickly matched by China. Beijing has stated repeatedly that moves to open up the economy will be made at a pace that suits China and not as concessions to US demands.
