Yan Kit So Memorial
Hunan Food
Lecture by Fuchsia Dunlop
Thursday 16 November at Asia House
Doors 6.30. Lecture 6.45-7.45pm
Followed by canapé reception

The Yan Kit So Memorial Lecture was set up by Asia House
in 2003 to commemorate and celebrate the essence and
beliefs of award winning cookery writer, Yan Kit So (1933-2001),
a tireless promoter of food and its relation to culture. This year
sees the launch of the Yan Kit So Memorial Bursary for Food
Writers on Asia, which has been made possible thanks to
generous donations. The Bursary is designed to assist writers
of potentially significant culinary works whose project requires
travel and research to Asia to complete their pre-contract
book proposal.

Fuchsia Dunlop will give this year’s lecture on Hunan Food.
She is one of the few Europeans to have trained in China
as a chef and was inspired and encouraged by Yan Kit So,
particularly during the early stages of her cookery writing career.
Fuchsia’s first book Sichuan Cookery (Michael Joseph Ltd, 2001)
went on to win the Guild of Food Writers’ Award for Best First
Cookery Book. Her new book, Revolutionary Chinese Cookbook
(Ebury Press, 2006) features classic dishes from Chairman Mao’s
home province. The Lecture will be followed by a reception with
samples of Hunan and Sichuan canapés.
