Collecting Workshop: Islamic Art
Chaired by Dr Venetia Porter
Tuesday 12 December at Asia House
Workshop 3.30-5.00pm

The Oriental Ceramic Society regularly holds meetings at which
its members bring along items which they have collected for
discussion. Each of these meetings is devoted to a particular topic.
Giuseppe Eskenazi, one of London’s leading Oriental art dealers,
has very generously agreed to sponsor two joint meetings with
Asia House to enable a wider audience to participate in these
informal but lively discussions.

The second of the Eskenazi sponsored meetings will be devoted
to Islamic art. Attendees have the option to bring along any ceramics,
paintings, textiles etc that were made under the influence of Islamic
culture and that they would like to talk or learn about. The geographical
spread is enormous - stretching from Zanzibar to Guangzhou and from
the Gobi Desert to remote islands in the Indian Ocean. We hope that
all those who bring items for discussion will be happy to talk about their
specimen. Dr Venetia Porter, Curator for the Islamic Collections in the
Department of Asia at the British Museum, has kindly agreed to chair
this meeting and she will be able to offer an expert opinion on the
items that are presented. If you have an example, bring it along
and enjoy an afternoon with other enthusiasts.

FREE to Asia House Members (booking required). Places are limited,
so early booking is recommended. Tickets available from Asia House,
