Location: Main gallery
Seamus Murphy is a poet with a camera.
Philip Jones Griffiths, Photojournalist
Seamus Murphy sees Afghanistan's turbulent people and its magnificent landscapes with an eye that is sometimes shockingly clear. I find his images as disturbing as they are haunting and lovely.
John Simpson, World Affairs Editor BBC
From 1994 to 2007, Seamus Murphy photographed the effects of the Taliban regime, the tumultuous years of civil war and the historical elections following the fall of the Taliban. Alongside scenes of war and politics, his magnificent photographs capture intimate images of domesticity, work and leisure. The exhibition at Asia House will show a selection of photographs from his book A Darkness Visible: Afghanistan (Saqi Books).

Masked Unmasked
Work by Wuon-Gean Ho
Monday 16 Jun, 2008 - Saturday 09 Aug, 2008
Location: Café t
Wuon-Gean Ho’s series of masked faces peels away the surface layers of social pretences to focus on inner emotions and past histories. These vibrant, hand-made silkscreen prints possess a texture evoking the tactility of skin. Powerful gestural marks and sharp lines dominate the faces, creating narratives for the viewer’s contemplation.
British born of Malaysian and Singaporean parents, Wuon-Gean Ho studied traditional woodblock printmaking in Japan. She exhibits regularly in London and the USA.
Exhibition kindly supported by the British Association for Monbukagakusho Scholars
