In association with the Iran Heritage Foundation,
Asia House co-presents
a concert by acclaimed Iranian pianist Tara Kamangar. Since the
mid-nineteenth century, when the modern piano was introduced to
Iran,
Iranian composers have blended the musical traditions of the East
and
West to create entrancing works for this instrument. Due to political
turmoil, these compositions are often difficult to obtain and are
therefore rarely
performed. In this concert, Iranian-American concert pianist and
ethnomusicologist Tara Kamangar will premier exciting compositions
by Aminollah Hossein (1906-1983) and Loris Tjeknavorian (1937 -
),
in addition to Busoni’s Carmen Fantasy, and well-loved sonatas
by
Schubert and Prokofiev.
Tara Kamangar is a recent alumna of Harvard University and the Royal
Academy of Music. Forthcoming performances include recitals at the
Asian Women of Achievement Awards, the David Josefowitz Recital
Hall
and Washington DC’s National Gallery of Art. Composer Loris
Tjeknavorian
calls Tara ‘...a sensitive, dedicated pianist with lots of
fire and depth...the
Ambassador of Iranian music.’
