Adeline Ooi is an independent curator and writer
who divides her time
between Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Yogyakarta. Her writing has appeared
in many magazines, broadsheets and private publications. She is
currently
a monthly contributor to the arts pages in Off the Edge, a lifestyle
magazine
published by The Edge, a financial newspaper in Malaysia, and a
member
of the curatorial team of Gallery W/O Walls, a mobile art space.
The contemporary art scene in Malaysia is flourishing. A new generation
of post-independence artists, many of whom trained abroad, have
returned
home to create and contribute to the burgeoning scene. Adeline Ooi
provide
a survey of contemporary Malaysian art, focusing on post independence
generation of artists, their different range of approaches and their
interpretation of the Malaysian experience
