The Excitement and Enticement of Malaysian Food
Lecture by Chef Wan
Thursday 7 June at Asia House
Doors 6.30pm. Lecture 6.45-7.45pm
Followed by buffet dinner

Chef Wan is a huge phenomenon. Not just a celebrity chef and food
ambassador, his cv is extraordinarily varied, including phases as rock
star, actor, talk-show host, comedian, award-winning author, lecturer,
accountant and entrepreneur. A household name in Malaysia and indeed
in many Asian countries thanks to his starring role on Asian Food Channel,
his whirlwind personality is once encountered, never forgotten.

Malaysia, with its strategic position in the middle of South East Asia and
its ethnically mixed population, is a vast melting pot in a very real sense.
Chef Wan will describe the culinary journey of Malaysian food, outlining its
history and evolution in relation to the external influences of trading and
immigration. He will explore the significance and holistic use of ullam
(culinary herbs), jamu (medicinal herbs) and rempah (spices) and give
a demonstration of key ingredients. You will have the opportunity to
sample some of his mouth-watering creations in a buffet dinner presented
in collaboration with Holiday Villas.
