SHIFTS IN CONSCIOUSNESS: A PATH TO THE RULE
OF LAW IN CHINA, VIETNAM AND CAMBODIA

A LECTURE BY KAREN TSE
Thursday 1 June 2006, 6:30-7:30pm at Asia House

In recent years, China, Cambodia and Vietnam have demonstrated their
commitment to improving their legal systems by signing international
conventions and implementing domestic laws to safeguard citizen rights.
Unfortunately, many of the new laws remain not enforced due to a lack
of resources, trained lawyers and awareness. Karen Tse will chart the vital
work of International Bridges to Justice (IBJ), an NGO committed to ensuring
the basic rights of ordinary citizens to have competent legal representation
and a fair trial. Karen Tse is the Founder and President of International
Bridges to Justice.

The Founder and President of International Bridges to Justice, Karen Tse
is a graduate of UCLA law school and a specialist human rights lawyer.
It was whilst working in Cambodia in the mid ‘90s for the Defenders Project
and the UN’s Centre for Human Rights Judicial Mentor programme that she
conceived the idea for IBJ, which was launched in 2000.
