Much of Korea’s rich cultural heritage
is revealed in its ceramics, which
date from the 7th century to the present day. This lecture will
look
at famous ceramic works of Korea’s past and explain the modeling,
decorating and firing process. The work of modern potters will also
be discussed: their very contemporary work shows a strong national
identity that has sprung from this rich heritage.
Dauphine Scalbert studied at the Harvard Radcliffe Pottery Studio
in the
USA and the Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations in
Paris.
She spent six years in Korea learning pottery and restoring antique
ceramics at the National Museum in Seoul. Having also lived and
worked in Mexico and Colombia, she is now back in France where
she has her own studio and training centre.
