Chocolate Rap (Taiwan, 2005)
Q&A with Lee Chi-yuarn chaired by Dr Chris Berry
Friday 15 September at Asia House Film 6.30-7.55
followed by Q&A and reception

Chocolate Rap is the first ever Asian hip-hop film. Set in southern Taiwan,
it tells the tale of a hip-hop dancer named Chocolate whose victory in
a series of dance-offs earns him the admiration of manager Pachinko.
Together they work their way to the top of the street dance scene. A car
accident throws Choco’s life into turmoil and he agrees to teach King Kong,
a small-time dancer with big-time ambition. Soon Choco begins an uphill
battle to regain his confidence: ultimately he must face his upstart student
in the dance-off of a lifetime.

Chocolate Rap is the third film of director Lee Chi-yuarn. Dr Chris Berry,
who will chair the question and answer session, is Professor of Film and
Television Studies at Goldsmiths, where his focus is on Chinese cinemas
including those of the People’s Republic, Hong Kong, Taiwan and diasporic
China. Reception sponsored by The Taiwan Representative Office, London.
