In this informal collecting workshop, Dr. Leng
Tan will discuss the many
pleasures of collecting Indian miniature paintings. Using fine examples
of paintings which participants will be able to examine,
Dr Tan will point out the different themes illustrated in Indian
miniatures,
the different schools of Indian painting, what to look out for when
collecting miniatures and what distinguishes a very good miniature
painting. He will
advise on how to start, build up and improve a collection.
Dr Tan has worked for Simon Ray for ten years where he has researched
and written exhibition catalogues for both Simon Ray and the Indian
and
Islamic department at Spink & Son. He also lectures on Indian
miniatures
on the British Museum Asian Art course.
