Seven years in the making, Vikram Chandra’s
second novel Sacred Games
is set in the underworld of modern day Mumbai. Inspector Sartaj
Singh,
the only Sikh inspector in Mumbai, is hot on the heels of elusive
gangster
Ganesh Gaitonde.
Born in New Delhi, Vikram Chandra is the author of Red Earth and
Pouring
Rain, winner of the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book
and the
David Higham Prize for Fiction. His second book, a collection of
short stories,
Love and Longing in Bombay, won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for
Best
Book (Eurasia region) and was shortlisted for the Guardian Fiction
Prize.
Vikram Chandra currently divides his time between Mumbai and Berkeley,
California, where he teaches creative writing at the University
of California.
His work has been translated into eleven languages.
